Baby, You’re A Firework! (On Meeting Katy Perry)

Posted July 21, 2014 by Loukia

Music, travel, shopping, family and friends… these are the things I love the most in the world, so imagine my excitement when I received an email while on vacation in Greece with my family, from my friends at Cover Girl inviting me to the Katy Perry concert back home… PLUS an exclusive meet and greet with the gorgeous pop star herself? I was so excited! Best news? I wouldn’t have to miss the concert because I would be returning from Greece just a day before the big show.

First step? Make sure all my Cover Girl make-up was in order. Lipstick? Check! In Bombshell pink, of course.
I didn’t know what to wear—jeans and a cute top? Black dress? Little skirt? I ended up wearing a bright yellow dress I bought at Zara in Athens, (the Zara in Europe is so much better than here, for some reason) because Katy is usually bright and colourful so I thought it would be fitting for her show.

My hubs declined my invite to take him to meet Katy (is he crazy or what?) so I took my sister to the sold-out show—she is a huge Katy Perry fan! We had a blast—we partied and sang and danced as hard as the teenagers, and didn’t fall asleep like the young kids at the show. We had excellent seats in the 100 section, close to the pit, and we felt so cool being escorted down the “secret way” to the room that was set up for the Katy Perry meet and greet.

Katy Perry put on an excellent show—it was super fun and I’ve been listening to all her songs non-stop since the concert. (My boys love Roar—it’s now my six year old’s favourite song!)

My blogger friend Jane was there with her daughter, too, (there were about ten of us there for the meet and greet) and then Katy came into the room about 10 minutes after her show looking like a goddess. I have no idea how Katy looked so gorgeous after dancing and singing for two hours to a crowd of 18,000 fans, but hey, maybe that’s why she’s a superstar? I mean, just look at her—she is flawless! I was pretty starstruck, and I know I checked out her boobs, because they were really nice. Just being honest, you guys.

I love that she took the time to meet us, and I had a really great night—it was just what I needed to get over my depression that my Greece vacation was over.
Disclaimer: I received tickets to the Katy Perry concert in Ottawa plus the chance to meet Katy Perry thanks to Cover Girl. I was not required or asked to write this post or mention any Cover Girl products, but being the huge fan of Cover Girl and Katy Perry, it was my pleasure to post this! Thanks for a memorable night, Cover Girl!

Posted June 5, 2014 by What's Different in Canada

What we refer to as “rubber bands” in the states are often called “elastics” or “elastic bands” in Canada. While both are technically correct (it is a band made of rubber, and it is also elastic), the Canadian way is more consistent with the bands they use to put their hair up, “hair elastics.”

Hair Damage Criminal: Guilty!

Posted May 26, 2014 by Loukia

I am guilty of being a hair “damage criminal.” Weekly blow-dry’s are a routine part of my life, and I love using my flat iron almost every day. (I know, so bad, right?) My hair is very damaged because I have been highlighting it blonde since I was 16 years old, and my weekly blow-dry’s at the salon by my favourite hairdresser does not help my damaged hair situation! When I’m not at the salon, I’m using my blow-dryer at home.

I’ve noticed this year that I had been losing some of my hair because of the damage from the colour and blow-drying, and I’ve started taking better care of my hair now, to make it stronger—and healthier—like it once was. I’ve used a lot of products at home, and have seen some results, but nothing as good as the results I have seen with using Fructis Damage Eraser by Garnier.

I wasn’t sure it would really “reconstruct my hair’s strength’s by 90%” but after using it repeatedly for a few weeks, I have absolutely noticed a huge difference. I’m losing less hair when I brush it, and my hair feels and looks healthier. I don’t even feel bad using my flat iron anymore, because my hair feels so much healthier.

Along with the Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser, I’ve also been using the Damage Eraser Shampoo and Conditioner. They are now my favourite hair care products, and I’ve even brought the shampoo and conditioner to my salon to show my hair stylist.

The Fructis Damage Eraser is not only the latest in hair care innovation from Garnier, it’s made specifically for someone just like me: someone with over-processed, heat-damaged hair. It’s amazing and has truly rejuvenated my hair. I used it, I loved it, and I will use it again and again because my hair isn’t as damaged as it once was.

It also smells so delicious, and now that summer is here, it’s a great time to take that extra step to make sure hair is healthier, because on top of repeated blow-drying and flat-ironing, I’ll be in and out of the ocean and pools, which will inevitably lead to some hair damage. Garnier to the rescue!

If you visit the Garnier website you can find out even more about the new Fructis Damage Eraser product line, and enjoy a limited time trial offer, to see how much you’ll love the product yourself! (I promise you’ll love it as much as I do!)

Nordstrom In Ottawa

Posted April 23, 2014 by Loukia

You all know how much I love to shop, and you know that Nordstrom is my favourite department store. When I found out Nordstrom was coming to Ottawa—moving into my favourite mall, Rideau Centre—I was a little (okay, a lot!) excited.

I already know I’m going to be the number-one customer, and I think it would be fitting if I was hired to work there, too. After all, I’ve got a passion for shopping like no one else I know!

Here’s some exciting news, Ottawa:

Nordstrom Rideau Centre will open on Friday, March 6th, 2015. That’s right… it’s almost around the corner. Mark this date down in your calendar, and tell your friends, because you’re going to want to be there for the opening day excitement.

Of course this new Nordstrom will feature the usual mix of apparel, shoes, and accessories for men, women, and children. It’s got everything for everyone… really!

More exciting news:

Nordstrom, Inc. announced John Banks as manager of its Rideau Centre store. Banks has many years of experience working in the industry and now he gets to call Ottawa home—coming from Miami, I hope he’s ready for our harsh winters! (Don’t worry John, shopping is a great way to stay warm.)

I hope we can all show him that Ottawa is fashion-forward, fashion-savvy and ready for some serious shopping!

7 Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without

Posted October 16, 2013 by Devan McGuinness

I have been a big fan of makeup and beauty products going back as far as I can remember. I always wanted to break my parent’s no makeup rule when I was younger and couldn’t wait to hit the age of OK where I could start wearing simple things. While I certainly don’t wear it […]

Gluten-Free Make Up: Red Apple Lipstick

Posted April 19, 2013 by Devan McGuinness

At the start of the year, I made myself a promise. Not really like a new year’s resolution, but a goal of mine to take more time for me. I admit I have been bad about putting myself on the priority list and after a while, that really wears on you. One thing I promised […]
