Spring Style

Posted April 3, 2014 by Loukia

It’s April—and it’s finally time to put away the winter gear, even though there is still snow on the ground. Winter dragged on (and on and on) this year, with never-ending snowstorms and freezing temperatures, but now we’re heading into warmer months and that means it’s time to celebrate—by making room in our closets for spring and summer. See ya, boots. To the basement you go, Canada Goose parka. I love you, but I’m taking a break for a while, okay?

Here are the spring essentials you need:

A bright jacket: Everyone needs a spring jacket that can be worn on chilly mornings or evenings when you’re on a patio having drinks outside. Think something bright like hot pink, sunshine yellow, or kelly green. Colour is everywhere this season!

Florals: What’s more spring-like than dressing in florals? Floral dresses are huge right now. After all, it just wouldn’t be spring without fresh flowers! When you’re wearing a floral dress, keep the rest of your accessories simple and stick with a nude heel to bring the look together.

Black and white: Black and white is always in season. Black is my go-to colour, even in the summertime. A cute little black dress, wedge heels and a tan? Easy, stylish, and cool. Even more cool? A pretty white dress with a golden tan. I love the one below from Banana Republic. And the possibilities are endless—Nordstrom also has a great selection. I love the white legging jeans at Gap, too. Super cute!

Little dresses: I love wearing pastel colours and bold colours in the spring and summer.  Shades of pink, coral, blue and green is a fun and pretty way to welcome back the sunshine. Club Monaco has some amazing dresses right now. I also love shopping Bloomigdale’s and Nordstrom for dresses and hey—they even deliver to Canada, if you love online shopping.

Stylish shades: I love sunglasses and I always gravitate towards Chanel glasses. I do splurge on my sunglasses, but I wear them all the time and take very good care of them, so that’s my excuse. I’m currently in love with this classic pair of Gucci shades. Perfect for a European summer vacation, no?

Cute flats: I love my Tory Burch Reva flats. They’re comfortable, easy to slip on, and very practical shoes to wear every day. When it comes to comfort, Sam Edelman is also incredible, and this year I’ll be wearing this pair of Felicia nude flats to get around.

Striped dress: What’s more classic than a striped dress? If you look inside my closet, you’ll notice a theme—stripes, stripes, and more stripes. Whether you’re wearing big, bold stripes or smaller stripes, this look is perfect for spring and summer days. I’m in love with this black and white theory dress, and the next time I go shopping, this dress is coming home with me. Gap has a great selection of striped (and very affordable) dresses, too.

The perfect nude heel: Nine West is always one step ahead with the best shoes for every season. The perfect work heel? They’ve got it. The Izzy is one amazing shoe for spring and summer and can be worn with practically everything from a cute cocktail dress to cropped pants and boyfriend jeans. I also love the Mahla, a dressier wedge heel. Both are perfect for spring and summer!

This is only a small glimpse into all the things I want and need for spring and summer. There are so many great options in stores right now, no matter what your style or price range is. Have fun shopping for all things spring!

Better Homes and Gardens 2014 Best New Beauty Products Giveaway!

Posted March 31, 2014 by Loukia

As a beauty blogger, I love getting the chance to try the latest products people are buzzing about, because many of these products quickly get added to my “must-buy, must-have” shopping list.

I was excited when Better Homes and Gardens Magazine contacted me to try the Best New Beauty Products 2014. Over 80,000 consumers took part in a research study conducted by BrandSpark International and Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, and these consumers selected the 29 most appealing and innovative new beauty products of 2014. I got to put these great products to the test! (I love my job, truly.)

Best part? I get to give away these fabulous beauty products to one of my readers!

Here are the products I received:

SensatioNail Starter Kit: I am terrible at doing my own nails, so I go for manicures every two weeks. I’ve fallen in love with getting shellac nail polish, because with the LED nail lamp, the polish dries quickly and my nails lasts for a week without chipping. This new SensatioNail Kit is perfect for people who don’t have time to wait for regular nail polish to dry. The SensatioNail Starter Kit comes with everything you need for 10 gel applications, even the Pro 3060 LED Lamp, designed to safely and quickly flash-cure your favourite Gel Polish, sealing in the colour to a “glossy, damage-proof, mirror-like finish.” After 10 manicures, you can buy the Essential Kit and the colour of your choice and you’re good to go again. The starter kit sells for $59.99.

Dove Go Fresh Body Wash: I love Dove Body Wash, and the new Dove Go Fresh Restore Body Wash is “…infused with Dove’s unique’s NutriumMoisture technology, which moisturizes and nourishes skin.”  It smells fresh, with scents of blue fig and orange blossom—so yummy.
Pantene Age Defy: This is the greatest Pantene shampoo and conditioner for damaged, over-processed hair. This new shampoo and conditioner helps hair act (and feel) up to 10 years younger. It helps fix damaged hair, lacklustre colour, dryness, thinning, breakage, split ends and frizz. It even restores smoothness and shine. What more do you need in a shampoo and conditioner? Absolutely nothing!  These are my two new favourites.
Regeneration Extreme Eye Complex: This is considered the best new eye cream on the market right now. It reduces puffiness and dark circles, and retails for $65.00. It helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, too. Even if you’re tired, nobody will know. I love this eye cream—a lot!
Cover Girl + Olay Eye Rehab CC Cream:  This is the best new eye cream under $40.00. It conceals while improving skin tone—total bonus.
Olay Total Effects Tone Correcting CC Cream with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15: A moisturizer and CC cream plus sunscreen, in one bottle—perfect for travelling, so you don’t have to over-pack the beauty products. (Which will also leave you more room in your suitcase for that extra pair of shoes!)
Cover Girl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1:  This great foundation is also an primer, concealer, and sunscreen for your skin—and the matte finish covers extremely well, without looking like a heavy foundation.
Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil:  I love using this oil on my hair because it adds shine, reduces frizz, and smells absolute divine! It is just as good as the original Moroccan Oil I use on my hair, and it’s totally affordable. The Suave Moroccan Oil keeps my hair smooth all day long.
bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick: This is a great long-lasting lipstick. I love the colour, too. It’s neutral enough to be worn with anything, and I love wearing this shade of lipstick with a smoky eye.
OPI Liquid Sand: This is OPI nail polish is sparkly and shiny. I love the gold and I took forward to wearing this colour in the summer, with a little white dress, sandals, and a golden tan.
A lot of these products have been added to my “favourites” list. What are you most excited about trying? Do you have a favourite among these great beauty products?

As someone who is forever trying to find great products for my naturally curly hair, when I come across something that works, smells great, and does what it’s supposed to do—I just have to tell everyone. I love sharing good news, you know?

I was so happy to receive an awesome package from Matrix a few weeks ago.

I put the hair products to the test, and I really loved the shampoos and conditioners I tried. (I received the Fall In Love With Your Colour and Repair Your Broken Hair sets.)

These shampoo and conditioner sets help assist with all your hair care needs, from adding volume to keeping your colour vibrant. They’re designed to cater to what your specific hair needs are—helping repair heat-damanged hair (like mine!) and by giving you smoother, shinier hair that smells really, really delicious.

The five Together Forever sets by Matrix retail for $16.00, and are only available in salons, but I’m giving away a set to one of my lucky readers!

I’m giving away the Add Some Heat To Your Life shampoo and conditioner set. I promise you will love it.

To enter, just leave me a comment below telling me what you love the most about your luscious locks!

I’ll pick a winner randomly on March 17th.

Beauty In A Box: Garnier Ultra-Lift Transformer Daily Anti-Aging Moisturizer

Posted March 7, 2014 by Loukia

I love testing out and trying new beauty products. I am a beauty product junkie, and someone who loves to shop, after all. I can happily spend countless hours at the beauty counter in any department store. It’s my happy place!

I just received a pretty box from Garnier with an amazing new product inside for me to test out: the new Ultra-Lift Transformer Daily Anti-Aging Moisturizer.

“Experience younger-looking skin from the 1st contact,” Hmm… is that so?

I actually did notice a difference in my skin from the first time I put this cream on my face. My skin was instantly more even, and fine lines went away. (Yes!) I didn’t wear a primer after using this cream, because it sort of acted as a primer, too. It’s an auto-adjusting formula that contains Pro-Retinol and micro-pigments, and it works over time (as well as right away) so any wrinkles you may have look reduced. This moisturizer left my skin feeling instantly smoother.

Here are the benefits you’ll notice with this new Garnier product:

  • Hydrated skin
  • Reduced signs of fatigue
  • Reduced dark spots
  • Better skin quality
  • Smoother looking skin
If you’re looking for a new moisturizer, I recommend this one—it’s affordable, smells delicious, and really does do what it says it’s going to!
Happy shopping, friends.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Posted February 13, 2014 by Loukia

Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day!

I hope you’ll all get the chance to celebrate with the ones you love. The most important thing I love to receive on Valentine’s Day are hugs and kisses from my boys, and hand-made cards. Those are the things I cherish the most, always.

If you’re looking for some great Valentine’s Day gift ideas, check out my segment from today’s CTV Ottawa Morning Live.

I’ve got a ton of great gift ideas from Holt Renfrew and some cute stuff from Pottery Barn Kids, too!

I love the adorable Valentine’s Day cards from Pottery Barn Kids, because they’re great for everyone, boys and girls, of any age. Also, they are so very retro, no? So cute. My boys especially love the little mail box you can attach to the back of the chair to receive your love notes—it was so adorable!

Enjoy, and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pretty Little Things

Posted January 27, 2014 by Loukia

I miss the sun, warm days, and flip flops on my feet. I miss little dresses, patio nights, and the sounds of summer, like my children splashing in the pool. I miss the smells of summer, too, like suntan lotion.

I’m over winter—the cold, the snow, the blowing wind, the ice, and all the winter gear that has taken over my house—enough! Sadly, winter is not quite finished with us yet, as is quite evident by the looks of things out there right now. (Just brutal.)

Thankfully, I’m leaving winter behind for a vacation down south, to my favourite south Florida resort, where I’ll be enjoying the warm sun on my skin, and the fact that we can all wear our summer clothes again… at least temporarily.

Bring on the sunshine.

Here are some colourful things that remind me of spring that I’m loving right now:

Hanky Panky: These are, hands down, the best. They’re comfortable, sexy, and come in many awesome colours. These make a great little gift, too and are totally affordable. You can stock up on your Hanky Panky addiction at Holt Renfrew or Nordstrom.

Clairisonic Skin Cleaning System:  I love when my skin looks and feels clean, smooth, and youthful. I’m looking forward to experiencing the great facials at Precian Laser Spa, but an at-home cleaning routine is key to great-looking skin. This Clarisonic Skin Cleaning System is an at-home cleaning kit that’ll keep your skin looking great all the time. (And this particular pink Clarisonic skincare brush contributes to the Look Good, Feel Better program, helping women with breast cancer.) “With daily use the Clarisonic reduces dry skin patches, oily areas and blemishes and immediately leaves skin feeling and looking smoother.” Sold!

Ariella Collection Silver Scross Initial Pendant Necklace: I love initial necklaces. I have a silver necklaces from Citrus Silver that was given to me with my children’s names on it. I’d love to add an “L” initial, too, and this one is so pretty, and affordable—it’s only $44.00! (This one is available at Nordstrom.)

Sunglasses: I love buying new sunglasses. Although I normally stick with Chanel when it comes to sunglasses (I’ll buy a pair that’ll last for years, and I wear them religiously every day!) I am loving these Lilly Pulitzer sunglasses. The colour is perfect for spring and summer. Can’t go wrong with turquoise! Best part? They are under $200.00.

Tory Burch Perfume: I love trying and loving new perfumes and scents, and this perfume by Tory Burch is quite lovely, like everything she creates, from shoes to handbags. I’m also really loving the new Estee Lauder fragrance, Modern Muse, and always have a sample or two in my make-up bag.

Swimwear: Since I’m heading down south in a few days, I had to stock up on some new swimwear! My mom bought me a new turquoise bikini for Christmas, and I purchased a new coral coloured one. A girls needs some variety, right? I love the swimwear from Body Glove, because the bathing suits and bikinis are well made, and affordable.

Toms Wedge Sandal: I love Toms. With every Toms product you purchase, Toms helps someone in need. I love that the company donates a pair of shoes (or eyewear) to a child in need every time you buy a pair. I am currently craving these wedge sandals.  (And by the way, Toms shoes are very comfortable!)

Carmex Moisture Plus Lip Balm: I love Carmex Lip Balm, and not just during the winter months. I recently tried the new Carmex Moisture Plus Lip Balm Limited Edition Design Collection, which made my lips feel super hydrated and soft. This new collection features the same ultra hydrating, satin gloss lip balms you can expect from Carmex, only this time in cute little stylish sticks. (They come in Fab, Adventurous, and Chic. All three have aloe, vitamin E and SPF 15 sunscreen to protect lips no matter the season!) You can pick these up at Shoppers Drug Mart or Sobey’s, but I’m giving away these three new Lip Balms to two of my readers.

Just leave me a comment below and you’re entered to win!

Here’s to looking ahead to spring, even though it feels like winter will never end. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, my friends… so hang tight!

    7 Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without

Posted October 16, 2013 by Devan McGuinness

I have been a big fan of makeup and beauty products going back as far as I can remember. I always wanted to break my parent’s no makeup rule when I was younger and couldn’t wait to hit the age of OK where I could start wearing simple things. While I certainly don’t wear it […]

Gluten-Free Make Up: Red Apple Lipstick

Posted April 19, 2013 by Devan McGuinness

At the start of the year, I made myself a promise. Not really like a new year’s resolution, but a goal of mine to take more time for me. I admit I have been bad about putting myself on the priority list and after a while, that really wears on you. One thing I promised […]
