Shoppers Drug Mart is the ultimate destination for beauty, and my go-to place to stock up on my beauty essentialslike my favourite Cover Girl mascara, my favourite Benefit eyeliner, and my favourite Prada fragrance. Once again (it’s the 4th annual national event) the Shoppers Drug Mart 30 Days of Beauty campaign is back, taking place across Canada just in time for fall and back-to-school!

The 30 different fabulous looks are telling the story of 30 Days of Beauty, giving you new ideas to try, inspiring you to add to your make-up collection, and on top of that? You can even receive a five-minute in-store makeover! The 30 Days of Beauty website has tons of great ideas to get you ready for fall and with your in-store make-over, you can try out some of these looks yourself.  A new shade of lipstick, a new blush, and you’re good to go. Take risks, add some colour to your life, and have fun shopping! I love buying new make-up brushes once a year, too.

The 30 Days of Beauty event is always quite popular with shoppers like myself, and Shoppers Drug Mart is always my number one beauty destination. 30 Days of Beauty is the biggest beauty event of the year because throughout the month, you can access instructional “how-to” videos, in-store and online, and behind the scenes videos that you can watch on that will help you decide what new look you want to try next. This event is taking place from now until September 14th.

I have a few go-to beauty products, and my favourite new addition recently was the new Cover Girl Bombshell collection, because I love the bright pink lipstick. I wore this new lipstick to the Katy Perry concert, where I even had the chance to meet her, thanks to Cover GirlI figured since she is the new face of Cover Girl, this collection would be fitting to wear to her concert!

Check out  for all the information on this fabulous event.  From now until September 14th, a one-day only offer will be provided to you. (One awesome offer a day? Sweet!)  Now you have the perfect excuse to go shopping for all your fall beauty must-haves… stocking up every day! You’ll even receive an exclusive gift with purchase (a cosmetic pouch with over 25 beauty and fragrance samples) from August 23rd to the 29th when you spend $75 or more on cosmetics, skin care, or fragrances. (My new favourite scent? Valentina, and as always, Candy by Prada.)

Why not take some time for yourself and book a five-minute makeover the next time you’re in Shoppers Drug Mart? I guarantee you’ll leave with a new favourite beauty product to use at home, and you’ll feel like a million bucks, too, and you’ll be ready for a new season… cute sweaters, new boots, and a new make-up look, and you’re ready to take on whatever adventure awaits you.

Baby, You’re A Firework! (On Meeting Katy Perry)

Posted July 21, 2014 by Loukia

Music, travel, shopping, family and friends… these are the things I love the most in the world, so imagine my excitement when I received an email while on vacation in Greece with my family, from my friends at Cover Girl inviting me to the Katy Perry concert back home… PLUS an exclusive meet and greet with the gorgeous pop star herself? I was so excited! Best news? I wouldn’t have to miss the concert because I would be returning from Greece just a day before the big show.

First step? Make sure all my Cover Girl make-up was in order. Lipstick? Check! In Bombshell pink, of course.
I didn’t know what to wear—jeans and a cute top? Black dress? Little skirt? I ended up wearing a bright yellow dress I bought at Zara in Athens, (the Zara in Europe is so much better than here, for some reason) because Katy is usually bright and colourful so I thought it would be fitting for her show.

My hubs declined my invite to take him to meet Katy (is he crazy or what?) so I took my sister to the sold-out show—she is a huge Katy Perry fan! We had a blast—we partied and sang and danced as hard as the teenagers, and didn’t fall asleep like the young kids at the show. We had excellent seats in the 100 section, close to the pit, and we felt so cool being escorted down the “secret way” to the room that was set up for the Katy Perry meet and greet.

Katy Perry put on an excellent show—it was super fun and I’ve been listening to all her songs non-stop since the concert. (My boys love Roar—it’s now my six year old’s favourite song!)

My blogger friend Jane was there with her daughter, too, (there were about ten of us there for the meet and greet) and then Katy came into the room about 10 minutes after her show looking like a goddess. I have no idea how Katy looked so gorgeous after dancing and singing for two hours to a crowd of 18,000 fans, but hey, maybe that’s why she’s a superstar? I mean, just look at her—she is flawless! I was pretty starstruck, and I know I checked out her boobs, because they were really nice. Just being honest, you guys.

I love that she took the time to meet us, and I had a really great night—it was just what I needed to get over my depression that my Greece vacation was over.
Disclaimer: I received tickets to the Katy Perry concert in Ottawa plus the chance to meet Katy Perry thanks to Cover Girl. I was not required or asked to write this post or mention any Cover Girl products, but being the huge fan of Cover Girl and Katy Perry, it was my pleasure to post this! Thanks for a memorable night, Cover Girl!

Posted June 5, 2014 by What's Different in Canada

What we refer to as “rubber bands” in the states are often called “elastics” or “elastic bands” in Canada. While both are technically correct (it is a band made of rubber, and it is also elastic), the Canadian way is more consistent with the bands they use to put their hair up, “hair elastics.”

Hair Damage Criminal: Guilty!

Posted May 26, 2014 by Loukia

I am guilty of being a hair “damage criminal.” Weekly blow-dry’s are a routine part of my life, and I love using my flat iron almost every day. (I know, so bad, right?) My hair is very damaged because I have been highlighting it blonde since I was 16 years old, and my weekly blow-dry’s at the salon by my favourite hairdresser does not help my damaged hair situation! When I’m not at the salon, I’m using my blow-dryer at home.

I’ve noticed this year that I had been losing some of my hair because of the damage from the colour and blow-drying, and I’ve started taking better care of my hair now, to make it stronger—and healthier—like it once was. I’ve used a lot of products at home, and have seen some results, but nothing as good as the results I have seen with using Fructis Damage Eraser by Garnier.

I wasn’t sure it would really “reconstruct my hair’s strength’s by 90%” but after using it repeatedly for a few weeks, I have absolutely noticed a huge difference. I’m losing less hair when I brush it, and my hair feels and looks healthier. I don’t even feel bad using my flat iron anymore, because my hair feels so much healthier.

Along with the Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser, I’ve also been using the Damage Eraser Shampoo and Conditioner. They are now my favourite hair care products, and I’ve even brought the shampoo and conditioner to my salon to show my hair stylist.

The Fructis Damage Eraser is not only the latest in hair care innovation from Garnier, it’s made specifically for someone just like me: someone with over-processed, heat-damaged hair. It’s amazing and has truly rejuvenated my hair. I used it, I loved it, and I will use it again and again because my hair isn’t as damaged as it once was.

It also smells so delicious, and now that summer is here, it’s a great time to take that extra step to make sure hair is healthier, because on top of repeated blow-drying and flat-ironing, I’ll be in and out of the ocean and pools, which will inevitably lead to some hair damage. Garnier to the rescue!

If you visit the Garnier website you can find out even more about the new Fructis Damage Eraser product line, and enjoy a limited time trial offer, to see how much you’ll love the product yourself! (I promise you’ll love it as much as I do!)

7 Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without

Posted October 16, 2013 by Devan McGuinness

I have been a big fan of makeup and beauty products going back as far as I can remember. I always wanted to break my parent’s no makeup rule when I was younger and couldn’t wait to hit the age of OK where I could start wearing simple things. While I certainly don’t wear it […]

Gluten-Free Make Up: Red Apple Lipstick

Posted April 19, 2013 by Devan McGuinness

At the start of the year, I made myself a promise. Not really like a new year’s resolution, but a goal of mine to take more time for me. I admit I have been bad about putting myself on the priority list and after a while, that really wears on you. One thing I promised […]
